One Year on...

I have realised this week it is a year since my degree show, and nearly a year since New Designers. And in this year I have learnt a lot.
Luce Stitch has taken some changes in the last few weeks. I am now working from home and looking for other outlets to sell my work, as well as on the internet. http://www.lucestitch.co.uk/ will be updated soon with all details.
I have decided to do this because I enjoy knitting and making, but I would like to get some experience in the design world, and to see what else knitting has out there for me!

This is a new bag design I have been playing with lately. It is quite different to my others, as it is all knitted, and floppy.

Luce Stitch

Its 6 months down the line, and Luce Stitch is up and running. Luce Stitch had a good Christmas, January and February were quiet, but its amazing what some sunshine can do, bringing many visitors just lately. January brought some nice news of a feature for Luce Stitch in my local newspaper, and my website has had a face lift. Watch this space for new products.....

Setting up the Degree Show

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday this week have been spent setting up the degree show, first it is painting the 10foot boards, then putting them all together to make them stand up and then you start putting your work up, at the end of today I have a fair idea of what is going where, but when I left it is looking something like this:Lots of masking tape where everything temporarily placed has fallen down! And some things looking you could say kind of ship shape, but still with lots of masking tape until the nails come out tomorrow!

Bags, bags, bags

Being a bag obsessive myself I really wanted to make some for my show, here is a sneaky peak of one

Accessories

I have decided to develop a range of knitted accessories for my final show instead of fashion. These are some of the accessories I have tried making

Laser Cutting

The new laser cutter at uni has played a big part in my work for my final show, from cutting dusters to felt circles , flowers and buttons.

First Samples

These are some of my first samples I have developed from my initial drawing work

Design seminars

As part of our final show we had to do a powerpoint presentation about our work, what and why we were doing it and where we intended to head with it for the show. To see mine click here.

Design work

To begin with I have started by doing some drawing and research for my final project, of circle architecture and paisley:

What am I up to?

After the dissertation it was time to get stuck into our final degree show, and start creating our blogs to send on CVs when we graduate. I have another blog lucy in stitches which I keep more as a day to day diary (feel free to have a peek), and this blog is basically about my course.

For my final show I am carrying on with inspiration from my gaudi project (circles in architecture) but also looking at pattern by taking inspiration from paisley prints.

The D word

As with all degrees we had to write a Dissertation. I researched and wrote mine on the Rise and fall of the Poncho. I have to say after some initial problems it was quite an interesting topic to research. If you are slightly interested about reading my dissertation, that is about 5000 words! click here

A trip to Paris

As part of our degree show we went to paris to visit the Premier Vision exhibition. It is like a textile trade fair with many textile related companies from all over the world. It was a very good day spent there seeing many things you would not else where, but we all had very sore feet from all the walking!!

We also spent time in Paris looking around lots of designer shops gathering inspiration, and visiting some lovely shops selling gorgeous buttons, ribbons, yarns and fabrics.

Below are some of the results of my happy snapping in Paris:

Third year degree work

As part of my final years work, I completed a mini project researching Gaudi and using inpsiration gained from my research to develop samples for womenswear.

Third year RSA bursary

We started the beginning of our third year of the degree by following a brief to enter the RSA bursary competition. I decided to research the Tropical Fusions brief, look at my powerpoint presentation to see some of my work toward my final outcome. Below you can see my final boards for the competition, showing my research, samples and final interiors idea.

Second year degree work

In the second year I specialised in Knit, which I enjoyed the most and produced some of my best work during first year. Below is some of my knitted samples I created for varying briefs.

WOMENSWEAR

These samples were devleoped from a brief about buttons, and another brief titled 'Strange Gardens.'

MENSWEAR

For this hybrid unit we have to develope samples from a brief about Long John Silver, and include either print or weave as well as knit.
